1. How do I get a short code from Ethio telecom?

Register your business, obtain a value-added service (VAS) licence, then apply to the operator, such as Ethio telecom, for a 3- or 4-digit short code and agree the tariff. Once the code is allocated, you install SMS gateway software at your workplace and connect it to the operator over SMPP. 360Ground supplies the gateway software, helps you prepare the application and connects and tests the short code before launch.
To run your own short-code gateway you need a registered business, a VAS provider licence, a 3- or 4-digit short code from the operator and SMS gateway software set up at your workplace. You need a value-added service (VAS) licence if you operate your own short code and SMS gateway, because you are then providing a messaging service over the operator’s network.
