Queue Management System in Ethiopia

A Smart Queue Management System Engineered in Ethiopia

360Ground’s Queue Management System (QMS) organises walk-in customers from arrival to feedback. Customers choose a service and get a queue number, see it called on counter displays and rate the service on a feedback device, while managers watch waiting times and service KPIs on real-time dashboards. The system runs on an embedded queue processor in a lightweight Linux environment, encrypts sensitive data such as mobile numbers, PIN codes and payment figures, and can collect payments at the display. A mobile app lets customers check wait times and select services. We designed and developed this platform for DStv Ethiopia’s service centres.

Questions? Answers.

1. What is a queue management system?

A queue management system (QMS) organises customers who are waiting for service. Customers choose a service and receive a queue number, displays call them to the right counter, and the system records waiting and service times. A smart queue management system adds real-time dashboards, customer feedback, mobile app support and remote management, so managers can see service levels as they happen and move staff to where queues are building up.
The cost depends on the number of branches or service centres, counters and services per site, the hardware at each site (ticket kiosks, counter and waiting-area displays, feedback devices), whether you need payment at the display or the mobile app, integrations, and the support level. A single clinic costs far less than a nationwide bank rollout. Tell us your sites and counters, and 360Ground will send an itemised quote in birr.
A typical branch needs a ticket kiosk or dispenser at the entrance, a display at each counter, one or more waiting-area screens, customer feedback devices and the queue processor that runs the system. Counter staff call the next customer from their workstation. Exact quantities depend on floor layout and the number of counters, so 360Ground surveys each site, specifies the hardware and installs it on the same contract as the software.
Yes. 360Ground can respond to tenders for the supply, installation and commissioning of a queue management system. We provide the software, specify and supply the hardware, install and configure every site, train counter staff and managers, and support the system after go-live. Hardware is sourced through authorised channels with genuine manufacturer warranty, and the whole scope sits on one contract.
Yes. The QMS mobile app lets customers check waiting times and select the service they need before they arrive, so they spend less time standing in the waiting area. This is the approach we built for DStv Ethiopia’s service centres. SMS notifications, for example a message when a customer’s turn is near, can be added through an SMS gateway, and 360Ground builds SMS gateway solutions.
Yes. Customers can pay by interacting with the display, and sensitive data such as mobile numbers, PIN codes and payment figures is encrypted during transmission. Feedback devices show rating questionnaires that your team manages, and customer ratings are captured and presented in real time. DStv Ethiopia uses both features to speed up service and see how satisfied customers are at each service centre.
Yes. Dashboard views show queue KPIs and quality of service in real time, and managers can monitor, report on, maintain and control the system remotely from a standard web browser. Besides the standard reports, a report designer lets you build your own by choosing the QMS metrics and groupings you need, such as waiting time by branch, service or counter.
We build multilingual systems. The National Business Portal we delivered runs in Amharic, Afan Oromo, Somali, Tigrigna and English. For a queue system, the languages on kiosk screens, tickets, displays, feedback questionnaires and the mobile app are agreed during scoping, so customers can be served in Amharic and English. Voice announcements that call numbers are also scoped per project.
