1. How much does it cost to network an office in Addis Ababa?

The cost depends on the number of network points and floors, cable type and distances, the number of switches and Wi-Fi access points, whether you need a firewall and its security subscription, and installation and support terms. Exchange rates also move equipment prices, so we quote per project rather than from a list. We start with a site survey, then send a birr quote that separates cabling, active equipment, licences and labour.

2. What is the difference between a router, a switch and a firewall?

A switch connects devices inside one network, such as PCs, printers, access points and servers in an office. A router connects separate networks, for example your branch to head office or to the internet, and chooses the path traffic takes. A firewall inspects traffic between networks and allows or blocks it according to security policy. Next-generation firewalls add application control, intrusion prevention and VPN. Many branch devices combine routing and firewall functions in one box.

3. Which firewall suits a bank branch network in Ethiopia?

Most bank branch networks use a next-generation firewall at each branch, managed centrally, with a high-availability pair at head office and the data centre. Choose a model by throughput with security features switched on, the number of VPN tunnels, SD-WAN support and central management, not by headline speed alone. We size Fortinet and other firewalls against your branch count and traffic, then configure policies that your security team reviews before go-live.

4. How many Wi-Fi access points does my office need?

It depends on floor area, walls and building materials, the number of people and devices connecting at once, and the applications they use. Video calls need more capacity than email. As a starting point, many offices plan one access point per open area or per 25 to 30 active users, then confirm placement with a site survey. We survey the building, plan coverage room by room, and install access points with a controller for central management.

5. What does structured cabling installation include?

Structured cabling covers the design of cable routes, installation of copper (Cat6 or Cat6A) and fibre runs, wall outlets, patch panels and racks, labelling of every point, and testing of each link before handover. It also includes documentation showing where each cable goes, so future moves and faults are easy to trace. We deliver cabling together with the switches, Wi-Fi and firewalls, so one team is responsible for the whole network.

6. Cisco or Huawei: which is better for our campus network?

Both offer complete switching, routing and wireless ranges suitable for enterprise campuses. The better choice depends on your existing equipment and management tools, the skills of your IT team, licensing and support costs, and the price and delivery time at the moment you order. We supply Cisco, Huawei and Juniper, so we can design an equivalent campus on each and compare total cost over the life of the network.

7. Do you also provide penetration testing and security audits?
